Value is Subjective

Some will consider the value of a watch the cost required to obtain it. The higher the cost, the higher the value of the watch. Right? Well, partially.

While some collectors hold monetary value as a key component of their collection, others do not. At the end of the day, value is a personal choice. The true value and love of my collection is based more on the story of the pieces rather than the cost of each piece. One of my favorite pieces is actually my least "expensive"; a simple yet elegant watch that my wife purchased on Etsy for our first anniversary.

Below is a photo of the engraving; something that I always say to myself when I stumble on difficult days. My beloved wife's name translates to sunshine, and so my mantra has always been "future is bright with my sunshine in hand." Of course, being the angel she is, she engraved it on a watch and surprised me with it.

The value of this watch may be low from a monetary standpoint, but it is priceless in my eyes. It is a reminder that no matter how dark my days may get, I have sunshine in my hand that will give me the light to push forward. It serves as a reminder of my Nintai.

As your collection continues to grow, whenever you make your next purchase, ask yourself what do you value most... what is the story behind it?

Shout out to my wife, Ruchi. I love you forever and beyond.
